Companion Cove to Host September Food Drive

Our very good neighbor, Companion Cove, will host a month-long food drive in September. From September 3rd through 30th, the folks at Companion Cove will accept your donations of food, supplies, and pet food. Your donations will be distributed by the St. Christopher’s Community Church food bank, which is a satellite for the Thurston County Food Bank. Anything extra goes to the main food bank warehouse to be distributed throughout Thurston County.

The most needed items are:

  • Canned food, especially protein type food
  • Paper towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Laundry soap
  • Dish soap
  • Personal items, such as shampoo and hand soap
  • Travel shampoo, conditioners, soap – items like those you pick up when you are in hotels
  • Gift cards for gas or for groceries at Olympia’s Grocery Outlet
  • Both dry and canned pet food is needed for cats and dogs

Cash donations can be made directly to the St. Christopher’s Community Church Food Bank. The St. Christopher’s food bank provides support to families and individuals right here in the Griffin area.

Thank you, Companion Cove, for hosting this food drive! This past June, we wrote about the Griffin Neighborhood Association’s call to local businesses to host a series of food drives for the benefit of area residents. You can read that article here if you missed it.

Companion Cove is your pet, feed, and garden shop, conveniently located at 6644 Sexton Dr. NW, Olympia WA 98502. They are on Facebook and online at companioncove.org. Contact them at (360)-915-7394 and companioncovellc@gmail.com.

Here at Companion Cove, we aim to satisfy all your pet, feed & garden needs. From cats and dogs to chickens and horses we provide a full selection of items. For the gardeners out there we have a large selection of bedding plants, deck baskets and hanging flower baskets. In addition to plants and baskets, we also carry potting soil, bark mulch, compost, peat moss, hand tools , fertilizers, garden gloves and much more. All of this in one locally owned store.

We thank Companion Cove and we thank you for your support of this local business and for your contributions to September’s food drive.

Thanks to You: Our Community Picnic

Thanks to the support of valued event sponsors, members of the Griffin Neighborhood Association, local businesses and organizations, and volunteers, this year’s community picnic provided a fine mid-summer event for friends and neighbors in the Griffin area.

This year’s picnic featured a wine and beer garden provided by NW Beerwerks. Local musicians Deb and Roger Hamilton provided live music. And area residents made donations to the St. Christopher’s Food Bank.

Special thanks to event organizers Becky Reavis, Mike Reavis, Joanie Zelasko, Dee Tropp, and Michelle O’Dell.

Many thanks, too, to the sponsors and donors who made this year’s Community Picnic possible. For a list of sponsors and links to their websites, see our prior piece about this event.

We hope to see you next year!

41st Annual Blueberry Bash is Sunday, August 18th

St. Christopher’s Community Church will host it’s 41st annual Blueberry Bash on Sunday, August 18, from 12 noon to 4 PM. Proceeds from this year’s Bash benefits Community Lifeline Social Services and Shelter. Bringing its “Bluegrass with an attitude” will be musical guest Runaway Train. Don’t miss this summertime Steamboat Peninsula tradition.

The Bash is famous for its homemade pies, blueberry (and chocolate!) milkshakes, brats, and more. Come join us under a cool canopy of pines for kids’ activities, games, bingo, raffle prizes, and good neighbors.
